What to expect from PHP 7

PHP North West 2015, October, 2015
PHP 7 is getting me giddy and excited, and PHPNW let me go on their stage to be giddy and excited (and hopefully impart some useful technical knowledge as well) about it! Performance improvements, shiny new syntax, and a few gotchas to look out for on upgrade – it’s all here. (The video is really dark in places but the sound quality is OK so bear with it …)

ChatOps With Hubot

Leeds DevOps User Group, September 2015
First outing for this talk on ChatOps in general and hubot in particular at the excellent and local Leeds DevOps user group. They asked some wicked hard questions and also shared some excellent chat-related stories in the bar afterwards – thanks people!

Advanced Git

Laracon EU, August 2015
The advanced git talk is always fun to deliver to developers already familiar with git and this was no exception. The Laracon audience were great even though this was the last slot before lunch and I’m sure everyone was hungry.

No slides, just video (because it’s all demo). The feedback is on joind.in

What to Expect from PHP7

froscon, August 2015
PHP7 is approaching fast, and currently we’re at RC1. This talk was my opportunity to share what I’m most excited about with an impressively large audience very early on a Sunday morning after an excellent party the night before at froscon :)

Get Your Patch Accepted

froscon, August 2015
I had the pleasure of returning to froscon this summer and was delighted to have the opportunity to speak in the main track there. This talk builds on my dual experience as an open source project maintainer and also a technical team lead, talking about how to offer awesome patches and how to evaluate whether a patch is, indeed, awesome.

There is also a video: https://media.ccc.de/browse/conferences/froscon/2015/froscon2015-1622-how_to_get_your_patch_accepted.html#video
